An ultra-light and super flexible material
Known as TR90 or Polyamide, it’s the most popular material in the world for eyewear frames because it’s incredibly lightweight.
TR90 makes glasses less than half the weight of acetate or other plastic frames, as 85% of the material is nylon. This means it reduces pressure on the nose and ears.
Its standout qualities are that it’s super flexible (it doesn’t lose its shape) and highly durable (abrasion-resistant, scratch-resistant, etc.). As a result, it effectively helps prevent injuries to the eyes or face that could be caused by a break on impact, or even by the simple friction of the frame against the skin.
TR90 is used in the aeronautics industry because of its high resistance to extreme pressure. Thanks to its unique molecular structure, it’s also resistant to chemicals and doesn’t deform in high-temperature environments. It can withstand short bursts of heat up to 350 degrees without melting or burning.
This material meets European standards for food-grade quality, which means it’s safe for children and even suitable for babies.
Products made from TR90 are wear-resistant, chemical-resistant, solvent-resistant, weather-resistant, non-flammable and heat-resistant. TR90 is a memory polymer, with a deformation resistance of 620 kg/cm², making it extremely hard to bend out of shape.
So, as you can imagine, some of our finest sunglasses are made from TR90.
